another sleepless nite

it's been 2 months already since my last entry? my apartment is still as messy as day one........or worse......i have been having a hard time sleeping during the night ever since i came back from china at the beginning of the month. waking up everyday at 6 am really sucks, especially when u go to bed at 2 am......can't function during the day, can't do work, suck at basketball....it's what we call a complete struggle. on top of that, school work is getting intense, well at least more intense than before. so i'm really looking forward to getting everything over with before thanksgiving, and enjoy the 4 day holiday. then final exams, then i get to go home again. i have to say life is pretty damn good.

Gotta love the city

so this is about my third week in the city, second week in harlem. still getting used to living in new york city. i thought i would jump right in and start living the life, but man life in new york is different. i didn't understand it until i started living here.

i have totally given up driving in the city, cause last time i drove inside manhattan, guess what, my car was towed. so now it's subway everywhere, gotta love the 1 hour ride from uptown to downtown, cand the 30 min waits after midnight, plus the temporary service changes and express/local stuff still get me once in a while.

living in harlem? let's just call it exciting. first of all, everyone in the area speaks spanish, i feel like even the chinese ppl working at this chinese take out place around the corner can speak spanish by now. the reason i'm living here? first of all it's close to school, 2 subway stops away and it takes about 10-15 mins to get from my apt door to school gate. second of all it's relatively cheap, i won't go into details but let's just say i'm paying half the rent ppl are paying in midtown or downtown. third reason is that i live on the 27th floor, so i have this beautiful view of the hudson river, the harlem river and the entire harlem including the george washington bridge. it's very relax to just chill by the window and watch the city lights.

then there is always the safety issue associated with living in harlem. after 2 weeks, i feel like safety is actually not as bad as ppl would think, i see cops driving by all the time and a lot of the times there're cops down in the subway station hanging out. so i feel generally safe and i'm sure i will be ok. but being in harlem, there 're still interesting stories. last nite i came home around 2am, started checking my emails and stuff, when i heard this noise coming up from the streets, sounds like the sound of firework cracking, so i'm like whatever, then 20 seconds later, 4 more poping sounds followed, and i realized  it's people working on their gun shooting skills in the lovely neighborhood, gotta love the dedication, still practicing at 230 in the morning. so that's that, earlier tonight i was watching iron man on my computer, i paused it to check up something on the internet, but i'm still hearing this machine noise from my headphone, i was like wtf. then i took off my headphones and realized the hovering noise is coming from outside my window. so i looked out and saw the beautiful view i have always enjoyed, with a big ass helicopter in the middle of it, slightly above where i am (27th floor), hovering with it's light bean on the roof tops of my lower neighboring buildings, looks like they're searching for something, and i looked down, and there're cop cars on the streets. i guess they don't like people working on their gun shooting technique in the middle of the night. i snapped some photos of the scene for sharing pleasure.

Back to Pittsburgh after spring break............

Humm, haven't been up here for a while, realized it has been a year since the  last time i wrote something.  Well, just got back from spring break. I had a really good time in Canada, it is a much more relaxing country than the US, and it has the best chinese food i have ever had abroad. But it certainly wasn't easy getting there, "anything that can go wrong went wrong" was the phase Kenny and I agreed on to describe the drive up.

First, it was a 6 hour drive to New York on Saturday, which is never easy. Then I wasn't sure if I can get visa on the same day I apply, but we have already booked hotels and all. So I was pretty uneasy untill Monday when the lady at the consulate told me "ok, your visa will be ready in 20 mins, just wait and they'll call your number". So I thought hell yeah I'm going to Canada and everything would go according to plan. Kenny and I were all pumped up, got to the car at 1 pm on Monday, ready to hit the road. And guess what ?!? My car got fucking booted !!! I guess these New York people do take parking violations pretty seriously, I have only had maybe 8 unpaid parking tickets? lol, I always enjoyed tossing those $115 NYC parking tickets right out the window, guess it's time to pay up. So we called up the parking police, and went to the city tow pond, which is one of the most depressing places, people were freaking lining up to get their towed vehicles back !! Anyways, we thought we were pretty screwed if we had to pay for all previous tickets plus the $185 boot fee. But I like the way New York does it, you just have to pay $185 for the boot and you're good to go. Turns out we had to wait till 4 pm to get the boot removed, but it's all good, as least we're on our way to Canada.

Evething was going as planned, we were going at 100-120 mph and would get to Toronto at 12 am. But here came this cop, hidden in the middle of the road in pitch dark upstate NY highway, clocked me at 96 mph without any prior warning from my radar. Yup, I just got pulled over again, my first time getting pulled over by a non-pennsylvania cop tho. Afterwards we couldn't even find the fine amount on the ticket, fuck it, guess I'm not paying. So ok, we hit the road again and decided to get some gas and food, as I was filling up, I realized my navigation stooped working, I thought no big deal, it will work after I restart the car. So we came back to the car after some Mcdonal's, started the car and my navigation was still repeating the infiniti logo on the screen, it was at this point I realized that my entire center console was down. No AC, no music, no navigation, no radio, no nothing............oh shit..........called up infiniti and they told me I had to bring the car in to fix it,  and there is no other way. So it was major WTF, we had to go full old school on this shit. Kenny's got the map, trying to figure out where the hell we were going, I was playing music from my cell phone to keep us entertained. Just picture this, we had my phone on the center console blasting low quality music, we had almost no idea where we were going, and we started to freeze our asses because there was no AC, this is the perfect example of a total struggle. However, after about 20 mins, we started to like this stone age shit, kinda brought us back to the old days, then bam, the music was back and the navigation was up and running again. Even tho we started liking the old school, we weren't complaining.

So after all that struggle, we made it pass the border (the officer was a total douche),  to the hotel safe and sound at 1 am. Then it's the start of the good part of this trip. Will be back.

March 05

it has been almost two years

Damn, I just realized my last entry was made in may, 2006.
That is a really LONG time ago. I was reading my entries
just now (instead of studying for my exam) from high school,
it was a lot of fun reading it because it kinda takes me back
to that time. Life was really different back then and I can see
myself progress.

Lately I have been selling shoes again, it is more of an interest
and hobby than money making tool, since the profit is very
small. I enjoy the fulfillment it gives me.

Basketball hasn't been good lately. I feel out of shape and
weak. Probably because of the lack of sleep and work out.
Things on the court has gone straight down hill ever since I
stopped playing for the team. I think partially it's because
there is no motivation for me at this point, there is nothing
to play for and work for. And there are more things for me
to worry about now.

I will have to study for my exam now, maybe I will come up
here later and finish what I wanna say.
